Hotel Marina Sao Roque, Lagos Portugal
★ ★ ★
A pleasant family run property that sees many repeat guests who seek a homely and friendly ambience with many traditional Portuguese features.
This low budget and rather dated property, offers basic but somewhat appealing accommodation with easy access to the main sights and public transport.
A flat fronted, yellow and white-coloured rectangular block with stone sided balconies, most of which overlook the busy street. A tiny car parking area stretches along the frontage with its arched off street entrances.
Property type: Hotel
Built Year: 1991
The lobby area is small and welcoming with a distinct family atmosphere. There are a few traditional easy chairs and a small rustic looking bar with dark wood panelling tall stools and a well stocked servery.
The rustic restaurant is particularly inviting, although lacking natural light. The well spaced tables and long buffet area are overlooked by a traditionally tiled lower wall and a display of plates and other artefacts on the upper sections.
A rear pool area has a narrow an unexciting surround which is well sheltered from any prevailing winds. There is a limited supply of sunloungers but the area appears to be well maintained and cared for.
Area Type: On a busy road, leading away from the attractive marina area, out of town towards the main road to Portimao and beyond. There is a selection of small shops from 100m along the street and buses pass the door. The railway station is 200m away and bridge crosses the marina for those who seek a short cut to the old town area, 500m away.
