Eden Roc Resort Hotel and Bungalows, Kalithea Rhodes

★ ★ ★ ★

No weather data found for [, ”Rhodes”, ”Rhodes”, horizontal]

This property is a mixture of modern, stylishly designed areas and non-descript, dated areas, which probably appears more evident due to the extremes of them both.

The reception and lobby is a welcome surprise, as is the champagne bar however this is only open at limited times and its not part of the all Inclusive, along with the A la carte restaurant and beach taverna.

Evening entertainment takes place at the old-fashioned pool bar or the makeshift theatre in the grounds, this is a regular occurrence as are the daily activity programmes.

The hotel has a unique location on the peninsula however better use could be made of the grounds available.

Eden Roc Resort Hotel

The main white V-shape building has rooms with average size balconies and orange railings, the majority having a side sea-view.

The 115 low-rise lemon and terracotta bungalows are quite bland in appearance and are located across a lawn further back from the sea.

All buildings displayed some signs of wear and tear at the time of the visit and were in need of some cosmetic maintenance.

Hotel entrance

The reception area and lobby is modern in shades of orange and browns with cosy furnishings and an overall chic appearance.

This theme continues on to the champagne bar with its large wall mounted flat screen TV with fresh flowers floating in oversized cocktail glasses.

The interior section of the pool bar in stark contrast features furnishings that are more dated and a distinct lack of character.

There is a further bar unused at the level below, which is next to the compact gym and modern styled restaurant with earthy shades of green and brown.

Rooms: 183

With the exception of the lawn leading to the bungalows where the children’s playground is located along with some trees at the entrance, there is a lack of greenery throughout the grounds, the majority of which are tiled.

The 2 rectangular seawater pools have no features with the exception of a waterfall type feature overflowing from one to the level below. They are located at the end of the peninsula with a strong smell of the sea creating an atmosphere of almost being in the sea itself!

Although there is space, the availability of sun-loungers is minimal and there are a few modern rattan shaded sofas dotted around.

The pool bar is rather bland with plain bistro furniture and a couple of more modern plastic furnishings, however round the corner there are comfortable sofas with views of the bay.

On the beach there is a taverna sitting on the sand shingle beach with sun-loungers reserved for the hotel guests which have a charge.

Area Type: Located 4km from Rhodes Town the property is situated 300m down a winding lane from the main coastal road also where the bus stop to Rhodes Town, Faliraki or Lindos is situated. The property sits on a small peninsula at the end of a bay beside other large hotels. Along the main road 1½ km is the small centre of Kalithea with a handful of tavernas and shops. Kalithea springs are 3 km away.
