An oceanside base with steps leading down through the grounds to the rocky lido area at the water’s edge. In an enviable location overlooking the sea.
Attracts agile guest who do not object to the steep climb down to the pool facility, diving area and waterside bar.
A mundane looking rectangular block is at a right angle to the coast whilst the main Portuguese style sea facing building with its red tiled roof stretches down the hillside. Protruding balconies with solid frontages offer splendid sea views.
Property type: Hotel
Balcony/Terrace: All rooms

The compact and unexceptional interior lacks style or sophistication although the lounge area is pleasant and comfortable. A simple bar with wicker furniture and glass topped tables has the obligatory TV screen whilst the restaurant is cheerful and bright with blue and white coloured furnishings, a low ceiling and smart table linen.
The attractive south facing terraces which hug the cliff side enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and accommodate a good supply of sunloungers and parasols.
Steep steps lead down to a blue painted sunbathing area with a small pool and open sided bar. Mature shrubs and flowering plants add some interest to the upper levels.
Area Type: In a pleasant oceanside development, amongst similar style properties, in the Canico de Baixo area. The sister, Royal Orchid, is immediately adjacent and shares some facilities. There is a variety of basic amenities 200m away down a sloping road, including a couple of eateries popular amongst the German clientele. Bus stop, 100m. A courtesy bus operates to Funchal three times a day, six days a week.
