A lush, well maintained, self contained village-like establishment which overflows with gentle charm, elegance and peaceful tranquillity. The botanical gardens in which the apartment units are tastefully landscaped are a photographer’s paradise and the spa and fitness centre are an added bonus. T

The amenities and prestigious appearance suggests a property of a higher category. Although there is a car park near the main entrance it may become rather full from the late afternoon onwards.

Lush grounds around the hotel

A tastefully landscaped collection of plum pink villa-style buildings with sea and garden views from many of the spacious balconies. There are many steps and slopes linking the various accommodation areas and less agile clients must select carefully.

Cascading floors camouflage some of the buildings and the farmhouse style communal building at the entrance is rustic in appearance.

Quinta Splendida

An authentic Portuguese farmhouse like lobby has attractive traditional tiles, a central reception area and much literature on display. The large main restaurant is tastefully furnished and relatively modern in appearance with an enormous buffet stretching through a long archway. The elegant bar is modern and refreshing with its terrace and comfortable seating.

A modern Thai restaurant appears a little out of place but is popular with residents and non-residents alike. A fine dining option is comfortable, intimate and welcoming whilst a restaurant at the spa concentrates on health foods.

Rooms: 166

Sloping grounds lead down from the main entrance past the accommodation units and communal areas to a spacious poolside area with its ample supply of sunloungers. The lawns and flowering shrubs are well maintained whilst the shrubs and trees are a graceful backdrop to the intimacy and tranquillity of the gardens.

Area Type: In Canico village, at the top of a hill, 3km above the coastal stretch, on a busy corner, with a few local shops staring 150m away. There is little around that may be of interest to tourists although the botanical gardens around the property attracts many visitors each day. A frequent bus service leaves from 200m away for the journey to Funchal.
